I’ve been on a Marketing/SEO kick lately trying to expand our sales channels and drive more traffic to our web site.   Suffice it to say, I have learned a lot in the process. One of which is the use of video on our web site and social marketing (linkedin, facebook, etc).  People love it and the search engines love it too.   So I sat down this week to do my first video (coming in early January) talking about how I started Menemsha Group and a few other trends in our industry.  Talking into a video camera is NOT easy.  I couldn’t believe how many “takes” I had to do before I got one that I liked.  And I’m still not sure I like the final cut.   But that triggered the thought…..Every sales person should video record themselves while they are on the phone or role playing.  I know this is nothing new in the world of sales.   In fact this is a little “old school.”  But I promise you this, if you do it, and study the film, you will see the results in your commission checks.  You can go to your local electronics store and by a flip cam for about $120.00. You can set it up in your cube or office and you wouldn’t believe how easy it to use.  Grab a co-worker or two and take it into your conference room and record role play sessions.  Some people may think this is crazy, cheesy, whatever, but think about it.  Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, lawyers (before a big trial), they all study film of themelves in order to improve their game.  So ask yourself this, are you above video recording yourself?   Too good for it? I know everyone is hoping for a more prosperous 2011 but are you truly committed? Invest $120.00 in yourself, you won’t regret it.
